The North Woodside Community Centre is proud to offer a variety of programs over three sessions: Fall, Winter, and Spring. See below for information regarding the programs that are being offered for our current session, including start dates, time, and prices.  Dates and times of programs may change; please continue to check back.

Meet Our Instructors!
Pickleball
                           
Pickleball is a unique paddle sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis.                                                           It is a low impact sport that can be played at any pace. 

Recreational Pickleball:

This program is for players who already understand the rules, have experience with the game and feel comfortable in their ability to play. Players can reserve a spot each day by calling the Centre at the time mentioned below. Court is limited to 8 players. Once the 8 spots have been filled, the court will be closed to others.

Novice Pickleball:
This program is for players who are new or inexperienced in the game of pickleball. Players can reserve a spot by calling the Centre at the mentioned time; Court is limited to 10 players. Once the 10 spots are filled the court will be closed to others.

          All days and times for Recreational and Novice  you must call the Centre the night before between 6:00-9:00 pm to book your spot.

Recreational: Monday, Wednesday , Friday    Time: 8:45am-10:45 am 
Recreational: Monday and  Tuesday :  Time: 1:00-3:00 pm  
Recreational: Thursday: 9:00-11:00 am,  and 1:00-3:00 pm   
The court is closed when 8 players are confirmed


Novice: Wednesday and Friday Time:  12:30-3:00 pm
The court is closed when 10 players are confirmed.

Cost: $3.00 or punch card of 10 for $20.00

​Keep on Moving! Fitness Club

This is a great fitness program that will work all aspects of your body to get you moving. Each class consists of a warm up, low impact aerobics, balance exercises, muscular strength and endurance, stretching and cool down. You will improve your joint flexibility, muscle strength and tone, heart and lung fitness, balance, posture, range of motion and reduce stress. Please bring your own mat. Weights are provided.

Learn the Guitar (New players) 
Play the Guitar (Have played before)  

Get together with Holly Blackler to learn to play your guitar. You will learn strumming, picking and chord progression by focusing on playing songs alone and with a group. Bring your guitar, a guitar strap, electronic tuner and some soft picks. Come and enjoy learning to play your guitar.

 Nia Dance  

Nia (Neuromuscular Integrative Action) combines natural movements from three dance arts (Modern, Jazz, Duncan), three martial arts (Aikido, Tai Chi, Taekwondo) and three healing arts (Yoga, Feldenkrais, Alexander technique). It is a holistic barefoot movement practice that is guided by 'sensing inward' and 'feeling good'. Nia can help improve flexibility, mobility, agility, strength, and stability as well as encourage posture, grace, balance, coordination, cardiovascular and cognitive function, and self-confidence.

Raise the BARRE 

Working at your own difficulty level at your own barre. This full body dance-inspired fitness class will help you squat, plie, lunge and curtsy to increased muscular strength and endurance, core strength, balance and flexibility. Raise the barre is a barefoot fitness class. Be prepared to work in your bare feet or grippy "yoga" socks. Please bring a water bottle and a yoga mat.

Beginner Line Dance

If you can walk you can "Line Dance". Line dancing is done to all types and styles of music, Country, Disco, Rock and Roll, Soul, Pop. Get ready to hit the floor and boogie until your feet are sore. Your feet will be itching to stomp and slide and no one will want to sit on the slide! We'll learn a dance step called the "Vine". So shine up your boots and shoes and step in "Line"

 Beginner Yoga  

Explore the practice of yoga specially designed for beginners of all shapes and sizes in a welcoming atmosphere. Please bring a yoga mat, water bottle, blanket and yoga blocks (if you have them)

 Active Chair Yoga 

This gentle, but lively chair yoga class combines seated and standing yoga postures, with a variety of creative movements. The class will help to strengthen the body while improving balance, flexibility and coordination. Fun chair yoga dance segments will also add a cardio element to the class. . The mind/body connection will be enhanced through a focus on the breath and relaxation techniques. Options are provided so that everyone can comfortably participate. Please bring a yoga mat and water.

Gentle Flow Yoga 

​
Gentle Flow Yoga is appropriate for those new to yoga or those with yoga experience who are interested in a more gentle flow style practice. The class incorporates flowing sequences to warm the body and slower paced movements that focus on strength, balance, flexibility and relaxation. Options will be provided throughout the class, so that everyone can practice in a comfortable manner. Blocks and balls will be available. Please bring a yoga mat and blanket and any other yoga props that support your practice.

Beginner Ukulele 
Beginner Plus Ukulele 


Beginner Ukulele: All you need is a ukulele and the fun begins. Song, chords and tuning can be learned the first lesson.

Finished the Beginner class? Come strum with the Beginners Plus Class! Learn more chords and strum to a variety of songs each week.

Instructors Amanda Trainor/Dale Smith make learning the ukulele an enjoyable experience. Come and  join us each Wednesday.

Children's Floor Hockey 

The North Woodside Community Centre is providing a Floor Hockey program for youth ages7-11 years. We provide the goalie gear, hockey sticks, and nets. If you wish your child to wear a hockey helmet you must provide it. Your child will enjoy playing hockey with friends in a safe and fun environment.

Little Artist's Painting Class 

Do you have a little artist in your family looking to gain more experience with a paint brush? Join us for two afternoons filled with creativity, skill building, and socialization. We will be offering a relaxed atmosphere for your little artist to create and take home a finished piece of artwork by the end of the second class. Supplies are all included within the price.

Afternoon Bingo Social

Bingo is a great way to socialize, meet new people and make new friends. Connect with new people every second and fourth Thursday of the month by playing bingo. 

This is a social bingo with cash prizes. Coffee, tea and sweets will be served.

Youth Night Drop-In

Every Friday night the North Woodside Community Centre has a room open just for you! This free program is for youth ages 7-12. Come out and play your favourite video games, air hockey, our new Arcade game,  and more with your friends and meet new friends.
 
Challenge friends with your musical talents with Rock Band. 
Dance to songs on the Let’s Dance videos all taking place in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. Youth must be registered to take part in the Drop-In. Call the Centre at 902-463-9276 to register.
A Terms and Conditions form will need to be filled out if it has not already been done in the fall.
 
This program is overseen by trained facilitators.

Chair Yoga and Dance

Chair Yoga and Dance combines gentle seated and standing yoga poses with easy to follow dances that consist of gentle yoga movements synchronized to music. the fun dances add a light cardio element to the practice. A wide range of musical genres from over the years are used. The class also provides time for meditation and relaxation. Everyone is welcome! Please bring a yoga mat and water

Let's Get Baking 

This baking program is a hands-on class that allows children to gain confidence in the kitchen, try new food, and most of all inspire kitchen creativity. Children will work together to make recipes from scratch, learn about the different uses of utensils and how to properly measure ingredients, as well as how to follow proper kitchen safety and hygiene procedures. At the end of each class, children will be able to sample the baking they have made. On the final class, each child will be given a cookbook with all of the recipes made to take home. Help foster the inner baker in your child!

Tai Chi for Better Health

Numerous scientific studies have shown many health benefits of practicing Tai Chi on a regular basis. The Tai Chi for Better Health classes will be focusing on a subset of Tai Chi and Qigong movements as well as breath work that will help you to: Improve your balance, Reduce your lower back pain, and Boost your immune system.

March Break Camp 2024 - FULL

The North Woodside Community Centre is offering a half day March Break Camp for children age 5-9 years. Each morning we feature a new theme that is jam-packed with fun and interactive activities.

Card Making
​
Making cards for your friends and family can be an enjoyable, fun and easy hobby. When you create your greeting cards you can choose the  sentiment so that your card delivers just the right message. Taking the time to make a card personally lets the receiver know just how special they are to you and that it has been made with love. Come and join Deborah to learn how to make your own cards.

​Grab your guitar and come on in and jam with others on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. All levels welcome.

Carpet Bowling

We are very pleased to continue  offering carpet bowling on Tuesdays this winter. The sport is open to ages 20+. Carpet Bowling is a variation of lawn bowling and uses carpets 30 ft. long and 6 ft. wide. It has been a popular pastime for more than 100 years across the globe. This program is a great way to socialize while being physically active. Bring a friend and come and play!
