The NWCC is proud to offer a range of programs, beginning this January. See below for information regarding our different programs, descriptions, start dates
and price. Register by phone, in person, or by email. Payment is required at the beginning of the first class. Cash

Parent & Tot Wednesday and Fridays Starting Jan 13th 9:30-11:30
am. Drop-in fee $2.00 This is a program for parents and or caregivers and
their toddlers (ages 5 and under). Enjoy a morning of socializing and interacting with one another. We offer plenty
of space and lots of toys for having fun. (Bring your coffee mug!).
Mini Chefs Ages 8-12 yrs Costs $35.00 per
child Starts Monday Jan 25th, 8 Wks 6-7:30 pm Hey kids! Want to learn some fun
and delicious dishes that you can impress your friends and family with? Come
out each Monday night and try your hand at Mexican Hotdogs, Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry, Quesadillas, French Toast, and many
more! Enjoy learning to cook and the best part—sampling all your dishes
at the end!
Intermediate Social Dance Adults, Fridays 8-9 pm (10 Weeks) Starting Jan 29th Cost $60 per couple Don’t be shy, be the envy of your friends and learn
the Waltz, Jive, Cha Cha, and the ever popular Polka! This is the last session
for this season. Mike Kaplan, a professional instructor will be teaching you
all the moves. The session will end with a potluck dinner and dance for all couples! Note: Beginner Session Full! Next Session will be Fall 2010.
Jamming in the Spring Starts
Monday March 29 7:30-8:30 pm Come out each Monday night and jam with our instructor Raymond Thomas AKA Buddy Ray and enjoy playing
folk, rock and blues to acoustic guitar. All who come should know how to tune
the guitar, basic guitar chords, strumming, flat and or fingerpicking. Learn
how to create riffs, get funky, solo and much more! Session free to all participants,
Teens/Adults!
Hip Hop for Girls Ages
8-12 yrs Mondays 7:15-8:15 pm 8 Wks Starting Jan 25th Cost $30.00 This time around
Jessica is taking Hip Hop to a new high-energy level. She has become inspired
by a popular new style of dance, “Krumping”. This was popularized in America and is characterized by free, expressive, exaggerated,
and highly energetic moves involving the arms, head, legs, chest, and feet (seen in movies like: Stomp the Yard, Step Up 2,
and the documentary Rize). Jessica will be incorporating some basic krumping moves with hip-hop choreography to create a fun,
energetic routine. So be sure to bring some attitude and a good pair of sneakers for stomping! :)
The North Woodside Community Centre also has a variety of Regular Bookings who offer programs.

Budocentral Martial Arts Academy
Our regular weekly programs are non- tournament and focus on building the self-esteem and self-confidence of all
who participate. Kyushu-Ryu Ju-Jitsu - An ancient traditional Japanese martial art that employs strikes, joint locks, throws, come-alongs, chokes,
grappling and weapons. This non-tournament style is very street oriented. Karate-do Shotokai - a non-tournament karate style where
movements are generally flowing and full of vitality and energy, while always applying the principles of harmony and relaxation W.A.S.P. - Women's Awareness
Survival Program is an exciting new self-defence workshop for women built on RSAD, TACT, Ju-Jitsu and Bully Proof taught by
Johanne Connolly and Frank Zinck. Bully Proof
- Bully Proof is assertiveness training for elementary school aged kids. It's a two and a half hour workshop
designed to teach kids how to walk, talk, act and prepare a plan for dealing with bullies.

Watercolour Classes for the Absolute Beginner
Come and learn to paint watercolour in a friendly,
small class environment. Here you will learn the basics of watercolour painting
and each week we will have the opportunity to apply learned techniques and tips to our painting projects. Classes will be
held at the North Woodside Community Centre evenings from 7-9pm and the total cost for the four week lessons is $80. (not
including basic supplies). The classes will be held Feb 7, 14, 21, & 28. I have been a contributing artist with the ASRS @ the Art Gallery of NS for the past ten years and am a
current member of both the Dartmouth Visual Arts Society and the Contemporary Art Society of NS.

VON Quilters
Tuesday Mornings from 9:30-11:30 am at the NWCC, 230 Pleasant Street, Dartmouth. Experienced
quilters wanted for creating charity quilts for the Victorian Order of Nurses. If you would enjoy a morning out
quilting with a friendly group of volunteer quilters every Tuesday morning, we would love to have you join us. It is
a nice social morning of quilting that serves a good cause. For more info, contact Theresa at 466-5024.
The Down Home Fiddlers
Started in 1999, we meet weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7-10 pm at the NWCC. On the second Wednesday of each month, the group plays for a senoirs dance at the
Campbells Senoir Citizens Club—All are welcome. The group has 30 plus musicians,
comprised of mostly fiddlers. Guitar, mandolin, banjo and keyboard players are
encouraged to bring their instruments and provide backup. The group supports
a variety of causes and welcomes visitors to participate or just listen in. A small nominal fee per person is charged per evening to pay for the facilities. Feel

Beginner Guitar Lessons Mondays Ages 8-12 yrs 6:30-7:30 pm Youth/Adults 7:30-8:30 pm
Starting Jan 25th 8 Classes
Cost: $30.00 Children/Adults
will be shown how to hold the guitar, to pick and learn the part names of the guitar.
All participants must have a guitar tuner and will learn how to tune their guitar.
This will save valuable time! Participants can start right into learning to play and enjoy the guitar. Regardless of age at the first lesson all will learn chords, a strumming pattern, and how to play three
songs. The guitar is a great instrument and a lot of fun to play!
Music for Preschoolers Cost: $30.00 Thursdays 9:30-10:00 am Starts: Jan 28th
6 weeks A program for parents and tots ages 3-5 years. Come and discover
the pleasure of using active play, music and movement to make shared time quality time.
Tai Chi Simplified Tai Chi with Don McPherson Cost: $40.00 Thursdays 7:00-8:30 pm Starts: Jan 28th

in a safe and friendly chaperoned environment with children of their own ages. Come
out and dance to the latest tunes!
Pizza and Movie Night Ages 8-11 years Cost $5.00 per child per night Friday Feb 5th & Friday Mar 5th Time: 6:30-8:30 pm Hey
kids! Come out and watch one of your favorite movies with friends and enjoy a pizza together!
Get out for two Friday nights in February and March and enjoy the company of your friends while you kick back and watch
a favorite flick and enjoy some yummy pizza!
Stained Glass in the Spring Instructor: Wayne Kelly
Starts Thursday April 8th and runs through thru May 14th (6
classes) Time: 7:00-9:00 pm Fees: $55.00 plus materials fee $15.00 payable to the instructor. Materials fee ($15) includes glass
cutter, cork backed ruler, square foot of clear glass, and a permanent marker. Following the first class, students will also
be required to purchase other materials as necessary for the class. Topics for the course will include basic glass cutting,
copper foil techniques, framing and reinforcement, and safety practices.
Our Regular Bookings are groups which rent out classrooms or the gym within the Community Centre.

Ron Decker Art Workshops
Artists of all skill levels are invited to register for workshops being taught by wildlife and nature artist
Ron Decker. Whether you have always wanted to try acrylics but did not know where
to start or whether you have been using this versatile medium, but want to further develop your technique, this is the hands-on
workshop for you. While working on a wildlife/nature (landscape etc.) of your
choice, Ron will review drawing and painting basics (basic shapes, composition, values, color etc.) while also teaching techniques
that are specific to painting with acrylics. Classes will have a max of 9 students,
allowing time for personal attention while creating an environment where students also learn from each other.
